Asian Bodywork
About Asian Bodywork
ASIAN BODYWORK is a classic style of bodywork based on the principals of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM.) A foundational element of TCM is the acknowledgement of energy which courses through the body. This energy, or Qi, is distributed throughout the entire body through channels or ‘meridians.’ Qi is defined as “circulating life force,” and ideally should flow smoothly and abundantly through the body, giving the individual her vitality, health and sense of wellbeing.
Asian bodywork stimulates the qi by using relaxing and rythmic circular pressure over the meridians and applying pressure to specific points along the channel, known as ‘acupuncture points.’ This type of massage is applied to the entire body, front and back, head to toe. This massage is very relaxing and revitalizing, and can be used for thousands of purposes, from treating localized pain to digestive complaints, or to strengthen certain organs or boost overall vitality.
The results of this massage are free flow of blood and qi throughout the body, which is often experienced as a pleasant ‘buzzing’ feeling. Circulation is enhanced, sending fresh blood through muscles, ligaments and joints. This fresh blood flow increases oxygen in muscles and other soft tissues, which eliminates built up waste products, leaving the muscles and tissues relaxed and replenished. The movement and balance of qi promotes health of all organs, relaxation of the entire body and mental clarity. This treatment is nourishing, deeply relaxing, energizing, and revitalizing to the entire system.
Asian bodywork can be performed to address specific complaints ranging from acute or chronic pain, to treat internal disharmonies such as poor digestion or headaches, and for general health promotion and illness prevention. When qi is not flowing smoothly, ‘stagnation of qi’ or an ‘excess of qi’ occurs, and can result in a variety of conditions.
60 or 90 minute Asian Bodywork appointments are available. Asian Bodywork can also be combined with Swedish and Deep Tissue techniques.
